The Roger Raveel Museum in Machelen reopened on 28 June 2026, after a year and a half of renovation. The building is close to our heart: BEEL Architecten designed the original museum too, with the design starting in 1995 and construction completed in 1999. More than twenty-five years on, it proved its lasting relevance and has now been brought up to contemporary standards.
Since its temporary closure on 10 February 2025, we carried out a thorough climate and energy intervention, allowing the museum to display and preserve artworks under the right conditions. Two galleries now meet the strictest international climate standard (ASHRAE class A), a requirement for hosting major works on loan. A new heat pump and air handling unit on the roof keep temperature and humidity stable; the technical installation disappeared out of sight into a new underground cellar in the garden, and the ventilation grilles were subtly integrated into the ceiling.
At the same time, the building envelope was improved at strategic points, chosen deliberately based on where it mattered most and what was feasible: new glazing and profiles, solar shading where needed, and added insulation on the roofs. The storage vault was also expanded into a high-tech, climate-controlled space with its own fire protection.
Welcome back as of 28 June!
